[edit] Pat MacDonald error

Stax, when I created the page for Pat MacDonald, the lead singer/guitarist for Timbuk 3, I misspelled his name as McDonald. Can you fix this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Akcarver (talkcontribs)

[edit] Tip of the day project update

Just trying to get things better organized around there. Toward that end, I've created a task list template for the project. If all the contributors to the project placed it on their user page, we could all keep in touch more easily (with announcements, alerts, etc.). It, and the latest announcements can be found at:

[edit] Re: Alison Krauss II: First Blood

Thanks! The Krauss article looks good at first glance, although I should probably give it a full read before providing you with an informed opinion. I would suggest sending emails to Krauss' official website and fansites asking if they could donate any images under a free license (see Wikipedia:Boilerplate request for permission if you're not sure what to write); it worked with at least one of the articles I tried it on so it's worth a go. A promo shot would probably count as fair use as it's intended for wide distribution, and the album cover may only count as fair use if it was placed in the same section as the info on the album, but make sure any images that look like promo photos are promo photos. In fact, the best thing to do if you aren't sure is to use a music video screenshot, since music videos are certainly promotional. About the vote thing; I don't really like voting on articles I've helped out on (even if it's just a small bit of help like this), because I feel I can't think objectively. Hope you understand! Also, I'm sorry to say that I looked in the library and couldn't find the books I used for the Carey article; everything seems to be in a different order on the shelves from when I looked at them originally. However, I'll try again next time I go. Extraordinary Machine 22:36, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reverting my edits

Why did you revert my edits on the Today featured article request page? I see you're on the CVU, but does that mean you did not assume good faith, (WP:FAITH), and decided my request was vandalism? Or do you find video games are not for the front page? Well, that's awfully opinionated don't you think? I am re-adding my request, do not remove it again without leaving a message on MY talk page with a good reason, a link to a Wikipedia policy. Userpie 15:08, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eating crow: ADARSH SAMAJ SAHYOG SAMITI deletion redux

(For background, see this archived discussion: User talk:Staxringold/Archive4#feedback on your ADARSH SAMAJ SAHYOG SAMITI deletion)

I am here to eat a large dose of crow. Your instincts were right all along: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adarsh Samaj Sahyog Samiti.

Having said that, thanks for giving this article several days to see if it would turn into something useful.

[edit] Mauthausen

Thanks for noticing that, it's really comforting to know people actually read my work - and some of them even find it interesting/readable/worth reading. It indeed wasn't an easy topic to browse through, but in fact the NPOV is much easier to achieve in such an article than, say, in some more political history related articles. Basically, there's noone to approve the Nazi German policies, so there is no need to include the other leg in such an article. Besides, if you strip all of the memoirs off general remarks on the German nation, German culture, and such, what you get is facts... Anyway, thanks again. //Halibutt 22:44, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Oh joy.

Stax,

Not sure if you're aware of this, but if you're not, here (I can't give the link as it's WP-blacklisted (guh... we have a blacklist?!?!?), but google for "Wikipedia-watch"). Creepy. Thought you might like to know just in case you, as an admin, ever show up there. Suntiger 20:04, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kent-Meridian High School

Per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kent-Meridian High School, I just thought you'd like to know that the consensus for High School articles now appears to be swinging back in favor of deletion. So this may indicate the beginning of another campaign to remove most High School articles. Your opinion on the AfD article would be appreciated. It might be helpful if a notability standard for High Schools could be agreed upon. Thank you. — RJH (talk) 16:39, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] T-34 for Featured Article

I think I have corrected or responded to all of the objections at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/T-34. User:Kirill Lokshin, who filed the first and most complete critique, has changed his vote to "support". I haven't followed every single objector's suggestion, so please have a look at the article and let me know if you would still like to see any changes, or if you are willing to give it support for FA. Thanks for the comments—the FA review has already resulted in some notable improvements to the article. Michael Z. 2006-07-13 17:47 Z

[edit] Template:War on Terrorism

Hey there, I originally protected the template because of an edit war that included some of the content you restored. Please make sure, especially as an admin, to discuss edits on the talk page when content disputes are involved, as the protected state of a page is not an endorsement by anybody. [edit] George W. Bush

Hi there. Since George W. Bush is permanently semi-protected, I thought it best to put a notice on the page reflective of this since the semi-protect template is misleading as it implies the page will become un-protected. However, User:Zsinj suggested creating a new template and User:Rama's Arrow pointed me to you. Maybe something a little more inconspicuous, similar to the gold star and speaker icons that appear for featured and spoken articles - a stop sign perhaps? Rompe 02:31, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Super 14 champions

  • I was just wondering about your comment of WP:FLC, were you said something like "an article in the form of a list". What does this mean. Its not an article, it is a list. Look at Tri Nations Series champions, the list which I based S14 champs on. That is a FL, and is similar, so I don't understand your comment.--HamedogTalk|@ 05:26, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pope Pius XII

Based on your comment in the FAC, I was hoping that you could contribute to the discussion on the Hirshberger painting on the article's talk page. It's a very long discussion between only four users which is in many ways becoming repetitively deadlocked, so I don't expect you to read the whole thing (although that would be ideal). As you'll see there, I support the continued inclusion of the image; however, I would greatly appreciate your input whether you agree with me or not. savidan(talk) (e@) 07:01, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photoshop request

Hi, I found your name while reading Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates and also because of your photoshop userbox (so they can be useful... :). I want to replace a fair use image on Billy Connelly with this image [1]. I want to completely remove the man next to Billy Connelly, but I always end up with an ugly picture. Unless I keep part of the other man on the image, but that also looks weird. So I was wondering if you could help me with that. I can work with photoshop but I am obviously not expert enough. [edit] Fair Use?

Image:RellTakesOver.jpg can be fair use even if it's copyrighted and unlicensed? (I'm simply not familiar with the fair use guidelines.) Can I do the same for this AP photo for my article Richard C. Casey? --Hyphen5 03:23, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying I can upload the image of the judge, or not? That's the only picture I could find of him. --Hyphen5 20:41, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
I just uploaded Image:JudgeCasey.jpg. There's a tag on the image page that says, "The individual who uploaded this work found it on an unconfirmed website. An experienced editor should help the uploader determine the status of this work, and help the uploader understand the process for picking the correct license in the future." Can you help me out with that? --Hyphen5 00:48, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] GCMG

I have read the source, it conflicts however with two biographies of Monash. In Perry (2004 p383) and Serle (1982 p305, 350), the knighthood invested on August 12 is the KCB which was bestowed months earlier following the success at Messines but not yet invested, Monash had not received the GCMG until the 1919 New Years honours see Serle p404 and Perry p376. The GCMG was no doubt earnt on part due to Amiens but the actual knighthood he received on the 12th was the KCB. I have contacted the author of the web page that you have cited for correction.Roonz123 05:27, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Alison Krauss

I just realised I forgot to congratulate you on helping elevate the Alison Krauss article to featured status. Well done! Also, your messages to me about the article led me to dig up my Buffy the Vampire Slayer soundtrack album and listen to Krauss' "That Kind of Love"; I had forgotten how good it was. In fact, I'm listening to it right now. And this is coming from someone who hardly knows anything about bluegrass or country, let alone listens to it. [edit] Earthquake Featured Picture

Hi,

You commented on the FPC: Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/1906 San Francisco earthquake by Arnold Genthe and suggested the digital conversion was of poor quality. I've found another version of the same picture, and was wondering if you could take a minute to examine it here: Image:San Francisco Fire Sacramento Street 1906-04-18.jpg, and comment on its quality and suitability for FPC. Thank you.--Paul 18:07, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Stax, thank you for taking a look. I noticed the over-exposure in the upper right also. Unfortunately, the detail in the original (in this case a print made from a negative of a early 20th-century lantern slide made from some intermediate negative of perhaps a print of the original negative) is gone. I suppose I could photoshop/rubber stamp it, but I'd rather just leave it as an artifact of its age.--Paul 19:28, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sparrow on FPC

Hi Stax!
I've put up version 2 of the sparrow set I asked you about before (on my FPC subpage) and it's currently got the majority by one vote.
Now I want to make clear that you are of course under no obligation to go vote (and I certainly don't want it to seem like "hey come and support this pic") but just for the sake of determining consensus (and since you liked it when I put it up on my FPC subpage), I was wondering if you could vote here: Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/House Sparrow2? Thanks, --Fir0002 06:33, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reminder

Please be careful to use edit summaries as I have absolutely no idea why you reverted me at Wesley Clark (and in this case, I left a justification for my edit). According to Help:Reverting, "Rollbacks should be used with caution and restraint, in part because they leave no explanation for the revert in the edit summary. Reverting a good-faith edit may therefore send the message that 'I think your edit was no better than vandalism and doesn't deserve even the courtesy of an explanation.' It is a slap in the face to a good-faith editor. If you use the rollback feature for anything other than vandalism or for reverting yourself, it's polite to leave an explanation on the article talk page, or on the talk page of the user whose edit(s) you reverted."

If you still believe my edit deserves a revert, then please provide reasons on the relevant talk page. Thanks, --Jiang 13:26, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:BobMcEwenforCongress.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:BobMcEwenforCongress.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --– Quadell (talk) (random) 19:38, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
