[edit] Coronado

According to the map on the Coronado page, Coronado never was even remotely close to Dallas in his 1540-1542 expedition. Where are you getting the information..? drumguy8800 - speak? 20:04, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

According to several books I have read, Coronado may have passed through the Dallas area in 1542. I'll add them to the references section, if you want. Stallions2010 20:13, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About the article

First of all. Thanks for the message.

The tone of the article as it is right now is still titlting a bit towards masking that pakistan existed as a part of India before 60 years and some of the reigons under the geographical boundaries of the modern state were a part of Iran and Afghanistan before they were a part of India.

My idea is not to degrade the article,it never was in the first place. The thing is using the open for editing wikipedia the article has been crafted in such a way that the fact that only India existed before 60 years(British India or the one from the Mahabharat era) and the modern state managed to obtain geographical reigons which have been historically a part of India(and if you go deeper in the history of certain reigons they historically connect to other countries as well) is sill masked/concealed.

I will guard my phrasing, styling and crafting in such a manner that the purpose is served and the content is not either harsh or loud this time.

Once again, thanks for your message. Freedom skies 22:41, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Muslim propaganda

At 23:33 on 17 February 2006, you added the following line to the article on Spain:

"Also, many Spanish youth are converting to the religion, discovering Muslim roots and finding the religion attractive."

Despite your claim that you "want to bring awareness of Islamic rule in formerly Muslim areas, like Portugal, Spain, Malta, and Sicily, without propaganda or being biased," your post was nothing but propaganda and biased. Honestly, on what grounds can you support your addition above other than anecdotal experience? I'd like to see the poll backing that claim. In the future, use facts, as backed by corroborating and substanting evidence rather than mere opinion or personal perception.

Not biased at all. This is true. I won't revert the edit to offend anyone, but there I've found several sources backing this up. The only one I know off of my back is http://www.cyberistan.org/islamic/travelogue1.htm, but I'll add more later.
I didn't mean to offend anyone. Please don't take it so seriously. Islam is the fastest-growing religion on Earth, and in Spain, people are converting - that's just a fact. I just meant to tell the truth. Stallions2010 01:08, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
  1. I'm amazed that you maintain that you statement is not biased.
  2. Please do go ahead and revert my correction. I'll just start a thread on talk:Spain; and you will, henceforth, be unable to substantiate the validity of your claim to the satisfaction of others. Not only are your sources lacking, but the 'one' you do provide is merely of one man's personal 'impressions' of Spain, hardly legitimate enough evidence to support your statement.
  3. Most shockingly, it appears that you haven't even read the very link you refer to above. I did, and nowhere does it say that there are 'many' converts; in fact, the author remarks that, of Spanish citizens, only 20,000 out of a population of 44 million convert! That's only 1/200th of a percent!!! Now, honestly, does 1/200th of a percent equate with 'many'? I thought not. Also, you seem not to have paid attention to the webauthor's own admission that most of the converts do so 'out of fashion' and that, in his own opinion, they will revert. These facts make your claim HIGHLY dubious.
  4. About Islam being the fastest growing religion. This is a very good point of contention and one worthy of discussion. From what I have read though, Islam makes most of its gains among the least educated in the developping world, largely due to high birth rates. Fastest growing, perhaps, but not because of converts. Development and education will likely slow the future growth of Islam in these countries.

[edit] Wikipedia:Wikiethics

Hi,

We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.

Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.

Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.

If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...

Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 22:20, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for the barnstar, after what seems to be a lifetime of editing/creating martial arts articles, I'm pleasently surprised that the barnstar came from a discussion I had on the pakistani page.

What more can I say ??...........I'm really appreaciative for the barnstar. As for the talk page, I've been away for a while as it's time for tests at college, I will look into the talk page straightaway, though. Freedom skies 04:40, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Would you object to...

...adding State of Texas in French. The edit you just made to Texas has been made several times before, and usually someone comes along and moves it. By adding it in French you could claim that your where displaying the state's name in all of the languages that were spoken by countries that once owned it—Six flags over Texas—I believe this would be a less controversial and would make the edit you made more secure. French is also spoke in some areas of Southeast Texas where Acadianas reside. Thanks. -JCarriker 23:08, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kaliningrad

I found your remarks on my comments most out of order, as though you were some superior person or teacher who is now going to tell people to behave! This is a right you do not have. In particular, the Wikipedia Talk Pages were created for comments and discussion on the articles. Sorry if you don't like that. I am not supporting Germany and opposing Russians et al, but a great many of the articles are being used as propaganda exercises by nationalists. I am sorry if you cannot recognize that. I am seeking correct unbiased historical articles. It seems this may be a remote prospect on Wikipedia. Christchurch 15:23, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Christchurch, I wasn't telling you "how to behave" - I have much better things to do. But you, it seems, are very biased. I read your several discussions you have on various talk pages. Fine, let's just forget that you think that the Germans and the English are superior (even though I do believe it). But you definitely have something against the Poles. You always are criticizing them for no reason. Now, the explusion of Germans may have been cruel punishment, but why are you blaming the new people that now occupy German territory (the Russians and Poles - I'm surprised you haven't said anything about the Lithuanians)? It's not their fault. In fact, Poland had nothing at all to do with this - it was the Soviet Union, France, the United States, and the UNITED KINGDOM that decreed the Treaty of Potsdam.
Sorry if you don't like that.Stallions2010 22:14, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] mergefrom in Bangladesh Liberation War

Are you serious? How on earth is a 1965 war related to the 1971 war? Even then, the Bangladesh Liberation War was fought between the Bangladeshi rebels and Pakistan Army, between March 26-December 16, 1971. The 1971 Indo-Pakistan war lasted between december 3 to december 16, 1971. Please read both articles. Thanks. --Ragib 17:36, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake. I meant to merge it with the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, not 1965. You're right, they are not related. But I think that the Bangladesh Liberation War is the same thing as the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Stallions2010 17:41, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
I replied in Talk:Bangladesh Liberation War. The Indian Army never declared war or fought between March 26-December 2, nor did India recognize Bangladesh until December 3. Thanks. --Ragib 17:45, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
As for the merger, here is the problem: If it is called Indo-Pak war, it won't cover the war between MArch 26-Dec 3. If it is called the Bangladesh Liberation War, it would also be misleading, because the Indians were not involved actively in the war between March 26-Dec 3. Hence, the two wars can at best be termed as one having overlapped endings. Thanks. --Ragib 17:48, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Shahmukhi

I do not appreciate you removing the image, and I don't want you to change it back. You don't even speak Panjabi. It is much more useful than the omniglot version (which I told the webmaster of omniglot what to write for Shahmukhi). My version shows how shahmukhi is actually written, shows their Gurmukhi and more accurate Latin value. اَيُّوْبْ وَزيْرْ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਵਜ਼ੀਰ 23:02, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

I am the one who told Simon how to transliterate the Shahmukhi on that page, and I know shahmukhi, i speak Panjabi, i am responsible for the Shahmukhi wikipedia, and that is nastaliq. I corrected Simon's page for shahmukhi, and corrected his transliteration of the declaration of human rights. اَيُّوْبْ وَزيْرْ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਵਜ਼ੀਰ 03:50, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fort Worth, Texas

Hello..
I've started work on a History of Fort Worth, Texas article. Right now it doesn't cover much, I have to leave the house or I'd finish filling it in. It's basically a reworking of the text found here.. sometimes when I see a bit of information that needs to be inserted from a separate Handbook article I stick that in, but everything should and always be sourced, as I've done on the text I've put in so far. Dallas' article hasn't reached FA status yet, but it has the shell of a FA.. I'd suggest moving around information and reworking the main page so that it looks very similar (in terms of section heads) to Dallas'. It's easy to get caught up thinking that mining out all the information you're going to need is going to be a quick thing.. notice that there are plenty of blank and spotty "subarticles" in the Dallas area that I got ahead of myself with creating. So.. if you aren't comfortable trying to put in really generalized information about things like hospitals, fire protection, transportation, culture, etc.. don't worry about putting that in. All that said, I'm certainly willing to help you. I've always been kind of disappointed with the condition of the Fort Worth article but I've never really had much of a motive to work with it.. now that I know someone else is willing to do a share of it, I'm all over helping out. If I have some down-time later tonight I'll get to expanding the main article.

Also.. note that the amount of information on "districts" and the fact that they each have their own sub-header is a no-no. That kind of information belongs in a sub-article, but right now its okay as its not really crowding anything out. By the time its ready to be FA, that will need to have been moved though. drumguy8800 - speak 19:18, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Info on Islamophobic group

Hello,

What follows are the thoughts, expressed in their own words, and in the 'protest signs', of the obscure, very small, but very vocal 'activist group' known as "Protest Warrior".

"What's becoming clear is how the religion of Islam is addicted to war and mayhem. Not a radical minority, not a rogue sect, but its very essence is about submission and sacrifice and proving your worth by worshipping death in this life to gain a paradise of orgies and drunkenness. Their entire history is of warfare, and any accomplishments of their so-called Golden Age has been proven to be merely parasitic off the cultures they've conquered and reduced to dhimmi servitude. That every country under sharia is corrupt, belligerent, desolate and barbaric obviously gives them no pause, except to constantly drive them into further psychotic rage as they refuse to ever accept any responsibility for their conditions. They are akin to the powers in Orwell's 1984; there must always be an enemy. It's no surprise that women are treated like property in these countries as that's the only way Muslim men can feed their egos, to dominate others rather than ever actually produce something."

Kfir Alfia and Alan Lipton, founders of "Protest Warrior"

Their 'protest signs'...

Signs

I thought you might be interested in this group's sentiments. They are currently very actively editing their own article on Wiki and there is a lot of 'group think'. Perhaps you might want to become involved in the editing and discussion process on that page. If you do, please don't vandalize, and try to remain civil. Should you not want to involve youself, please forgive my intrusion.

[edit] Texas In the South

I'd be very happy to help. I don't seriously consider anything west of DFW southern. Eastern portions of Texas do though, I believe, tend to be more like Alabama, and Mississippi. I stray from calling San Antonio southern, I think it's more of Southwestern. In my region of North Alabama, people don't usually associate cities like Abilene, San Antonio, or Amarillo with the deep south, they more belong to the very fringe or outskirts. Austin could also be one of those but, people also say it's southern. Houston is definitely deep southern. It's like a Mobile/Birmingham except much larger. I say the line of southern-ness for Texas is drawn from somewhere between Houston and Corpus Christi, west of Austin, and about 50-80 miles west of Dallas. All of the area inside that line I consider Southern. Deep Southern would belong to anything within 100 miles of the Gulf Coast in that line. All IMO. AlaGuy 05:05, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Stallion I noticed that you are very involved with the Southern Page article, and I was wondering if you could form a concensus with me, on this page involving Kentucky being a Southern state and the edits that certain editors are making to denounce this Fact, Please help me if you can Louisvillian 20:59, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Opinion on Southern Legitimacy of Texas

I am in partial agreement with AlaGuy's response, although my own opinion would never have been so technical (geographically) of an answer, my own caters to a more esoteric point of view. While I do pubicly consider Texas southern, I personally regard it as it's own entity unto itself. I think the culture of Texas has existed outside the rest of the country, harkening to a distant past of isolationism and territoriality. It does blend southern and western culture together, with offshoots of Cajun, Native American and Mexican sentiments, but the majority of Texas, is of Texas and therefore should not be looped into the southern/not southern argument. It is just one man's opinion, but carefully considered. Diarmada

[edit] WikiProject Fort Worth

I've built a tentative WikiProject Fort Worth page over at User:Drumguy8800/WikiProject Fort Worth. There are lots of things that need to be done, of course. If you'd like to use a similar format as WikiProject Dallas, we'll have to start making project-specific stuff like headers. I had originally intended to make WPFW, WPD, and a joint, WPDFW for suburbs and such accessible from tabs above similarly-styled headers across the three projects. I know you're going through an official process or what-have-you, so I've held back from actually creating the project. I also created a {{Fort-Worth-stub}} and started cleaning up FW articles and made a FW neighborhood category.

Looking forward to working w you.. drumguy8800 C T 03:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, this project will require a lot of time and effort. But it will definitely be worth it. We should work on the Dallas article a little more also, to make it a featured article. The main Fort Worth article needs a lot more improvement, though. --Stallions2010 22:42, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Map Request

I'm working on your map request for Texas regions - for Deep East Texas you suggested coloring the rest of East Texas in pink. Looking at the map currently on East Texas - should I use just the core area for East Texas or the border area as well? Kmusser 14:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Also there's a discrepency about whether Panola should be included - it is not part of the Deep East Council of Governments - if it's commonly considered part of the Deep East region anyway I'll include it, but wanted to check. Kmusser 15:10, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Found an existing map at Image:DETCOG.png, if that's good enough go ahead and use it and I'll just make the one for North Texas, if you still want one showing a buffer area though I can make it. Kmusser 15:18, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Added map for North Texas, let me know if it looks right? Kmusser 15:50, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi! Thanks for carrying out my requests. Your response was quite prompt, and thank you for that. As for the maps, I think that only the core of East Texas should be included. If you want, you can stripe the border counties and say that they are sometimes included in the definition of East Texas, have the core in pink, and Deep East Texas in red.
North Texas' map is great! However, I'd recommend a few changes, as the definition of the region is debatable and may cause some controversy. I'd recommend having the core of North Texas in red, and the border counties in pink/striped to show that they may or may not be included. The 31 core counties of North Texas are:

The following 12 counties may or may not be included in the definition of North Texas:

Thanks for all your help, it's greatly appreciated. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. --Stallions2010 22:57, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, new maps are up in their respective articles, feel free to edit the caption to something more descriptive and let me know if there is anything else that should be changed. Kmusser 16:03, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
