[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia!
Dear Stahlbrand: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:
Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user talk (discussion) page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. A third option is to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator.
One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 14:05, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Linking
Hiya. You really shouldn't be putting in links to your own website, no matter how honorable the intent. Please desist. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 16:11, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
How do I reply to you guys?!?!
I had no idea my linking was to be considered as SPAM. On several of the pages I edited, there were already links to Piano Society created by someone else. At least two of them did not point to the correct page after me doing some rearrangement of the site.
Also, I see links to IMSLP.org to which we (Piano Society) has a collaboration with (see their composers pages who all have links to recordings to us), and I cannot understand the difference between them linking to their scores and me linking to our free recordings. Further, there are a lot links to other free recordings sites which are very similar to mine. Please explain.
Best regards, Robert
- Talking to us right here is fine. The real problem is that it's your own site being linked to. See Wikipedia:External links#Advertising and conflicts of interest, where it says You should avoid linking to a website that you own, maintain or represent, even if the guidelines otherwise imply that it should be linked. If the link is to a relevant and informative site that should otherwise be included, please consider mentioning it on the talk page and let neutral and independent Wikipedia editors decide whether to add it. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 05:13, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi Jpgordon,
I definitely understand your point and will from here do my best to apply to the rules of Wikipedia. I am of course aware of the SPAM problems and have the very same issue on the forum I run along with Piano Society. Please forgive me for stepping over the line.
Best regards, Robert
