Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Staffwaterboy
Staffwaterboy, I am sorry to inform you that I have closed your RfA as unlikely to reach consensus: there was an 0:4 ratio against the request at the time of processing. However, don't be downhearted by this: I can assure you that your contributions are both highly welcome and valued—many editors have failed their first request for adminship, only to sail through later and become well-respected administrators.
You may wish to review the Guide to RfA before submitting future nominations, as well as well as here and here, both of which list the more highly-supported RfAs. Additionally, admin coaching is a useful aid for editors interested in becoming an administrator. If I can assist you at all, please do not hesitate to contact me. Kindest regards, AGK (contact) 19:14, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
You are invited!
New York City Meetup
|
In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, and have salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).
Well also make preparations for our exciting Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, a free content photography contest for Columbia University students planned for Friday March 28 (about 2 weeks after our meeting).
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.
You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.
You're also invited to subscribe to the public Wikimedia New York City mailing list, which is a great way to receive timely updates.
This has been an automated delivery because you were on the invite list. BrownBot (talk) 03:34, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Userbox
Hey, I was reading your userboxes and noticed that under the ones that say you're pro-life, you have a Libertarian party box that says you love abortion. I didn't know if you were aware of that or if that's how it was intended. If so, then disregard this comment from someone who is bored enough to read people's userboxes. ;-) Cheers. (p.s. As you can see from my userpage, we have some of the same beliefs.) AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 21:57, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Userpage protection
Not sure if you noticed that your protection request for your userpage was declined. You are welcome to protect semi-protection of your userpage, which will prevent anonymous users, and new accounts from editing it. To request that, please add a new request for semi-protection to WP:RFPP, or just leave a note on my talk page. - Rjd0060 (talk) 23:38, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Semi-protecting my userpage
I appreciate your advice. However, I really don't want to protect my userpage, even though it is vandalized so much. Someone else asked me why I don't protect my userpage. Here is what I told them:
“ | Yeah, I know, but in my mind, protecting my userpage does two things:
The reason I have all that crap on my userpage is to force vandals to work if they want to vandalize my userpage unobtrusively. Unless you know HTML and wikimarkup fairly well, you will not be able to figure out what is going on with my userpage. So basically, the only thing they can do is blank the page and/or add content that will be obviously out of place. Or they can add stuff to that banner, which I could quote to you in my sleep... |
” |
Hope that explains my reasoning. Thanks for the suggestion though. Have a good day, and may the vandals fail... J.delanoygabsadds 17:00, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: encryption
Well, that is part of a few secrets I have with my userpage. I don't want just anyone to be able know what I did to protect my page, so I will email you all my secrets... Just don't tell anyone what I did. If they really want (or need) to know, please email them. I don't want vandals to be able to look through the history of various talk pages to find the "key" to vandalizing my real userpage. So, a few minutes after I click submit on this message, you should get an email. J.delanoygabsadds 15:14, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Nice. I liked all the HTML pictures! The only thing I would do is change the img src things to something like <img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/63/Wikipedia-logo.png" J.delanoygabsadds 17:02, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Statusbot is not working, so I have to manually change the status thing on my page. If you do not like the style I am using on my page, User:Milk's Favorite Cookie has a nice one on his page, but you may have to ask him how it works, as I am not sure. If that one doesn't work for you, I do not know of any others that can be changed manually. If don't like any of the ones that already exist, tell me what you want to have, and I can try to make it for you. J.delanoygabsadds 17:28, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello...I was just searching around, and came upon your two sunrise pictures. status template
OK, I put the template onto your userpage. The actual template is located at User:Staffwaterboy/statustemplate. In order to make the template work, go to your real userpage and find {{User:Staffwaterboy/statustemplate|busy}}. The part after the "|" thingy is the only part you have to change. The controls are as follows (all controls are lowercase only.): "in" is online, "out" is offline, and "busy" is somewhere. If you have any questions or if you want me to change how it looks or what the keywords are, just lemmeno. J.delanoygabsadds 12:32, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

- Actually, nevermind. I checked myself. While it is true that you did a good job with those contributions, the rules of the challenge explicitly state that you need to sign up first and that anti-vandalism efforts before signing up don't count towards the challenge. I commend you for your extensive vandal fighting efforts, but currently they don't apply to the challenge. Sorry --Sharkface217 00:46, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

WP:UAA reports
Please use more restraint in the users you are reporting. You have reported several usernames as "confusing" when they are in fact perfectly intelligible, you just don't know what they mean. You have also reported several usernames as "promotional" when they haven't been involved in any promotion; such usernames are not supposed to be blocked. You've been doing this at a very high volume and you need to slow down and report only clear violations of WP:U. Mangojuicetalk 17:57, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- You are still reporting non-blockable usernames. Please reread WP:U carefully. Let me give you some additional guidance. (1) Confusing usernames are ones with long repeated sequences of letters or numbers, or names apparently typed at random. (2) Misleading usernames either include a celebrity's real name or make the user sound like they are an admin or someone else powerful on Wikipedia. (3) Promotional usernames are generally not blocked unless the user actually engages in promotion. Even then, be sure the user is promoting a company or group, not just an individual - a person's real name is never a promotional username. (4) Offensive usernames do not include just anything with minor swear words (like "RickDick4"): they include names that editors would realistically have a hard time working collaboratively with. Heya
Thanks for the reports to RFPP. I think I've covered them all. Just a reminder, don't forget about reporting vandals to AIV! Protection is great when an article is under attack or has a BUNCH of vandalism, but if/when it's just one editor, AIV is often the preferred method. Thanks for the great work, and happy editing my friend! :) Jmlk17 02:54, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

I assume you're using some automatic program to revert edits. Please pay a little more attention to edit summaries, discussions on articles, and history before you simply revert. Just because I'm anonymous doesn't mean I'm a vandal. 71.110.132.139 (talk) 04:10, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Page protection
You've requested protection on over 20 articles in the last hour, some with only an edit or two in the last few months. Please be more careful when requesting protection; it causes unneeded work for admins. - auburnpilot talk 04:25, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've declined some: the preferred solution is to block the IP if they don't stop. Semi-protection is for multiple-IP attacks. And we don't protect the Featured Article, which presently is Tomb of Antipope John XXIII. Acroterion (talk) 04:28, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for making a report about Nashyboy69 (talk · contribs) at Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. Unfortunately, your report has been removed due to the username not violating policy, or not being blatant enough for a block. Please remember you should only post infringements on this page if they are so grave that the user needs to be blocked immediately. Others should be discussed with the user in question first, for example using the {{Uw-username}} template. A request for comment can be filed if the user disagrees that their name is against the username policy, or has continued to edit after you have expressed your concern. Thank you. The use of the number "69" does not make a username offensive in itself; certainly not offensive enough to warrant blocking without discussion. SamBC(talk) 14:05, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
User:170.161.70.163
Just a quickie - I've declined protection of Eel (my reasons are set out at WP:RFPP. Did you mean to ask for full protection anyway? If so, have a little look at the protection policy. Full protection is relatively rarely used, and never where there's vandalism from new accounts or IPs, as in this instance. I've removed the report to WP:AIV - there hasn't been any vandalism past the final warning, as far as I can see. I appreciate it's a school, so it's probably a matter of postponing the inevitable 3 month block anyway, but there you have it...! Thanks for your work. GBT/C 17:30, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

WP:UAA notice
Thank you for making a report about Dickbrowne (talk · contribs) at Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. Others should be discussed with the user in question first, for example using the {{Uw-username}} template. I'm going to add to that. I've warned you before about inappropriate reports to WP:UAA. You recently made a large number of inappropriate reports, most of which were declined, and one or two of which were actually blocked against policy. Please desist from making any more reports to WP:UAA; your understanding of the username policy is too poor for you to be doing this, and communicating with you has been ineffective. Please see my comments, and other users' comments in UAA's history as to why I have declined to block a number of the usernames you have reported. Speedy deletion of Emuno bar
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you.

Please do not ask for protection of articles for single acts of "vandalism". Both Solace red and The Horror Show Ep had one act of "vandalism" according to you. In fact, those were both the creator of the article blanking the page which usually qualifies as a request for deletion (see WP:CSD).
