 The Joshua tree is the most characteristic plant of the Mojave Desert. |

 The blue or banana yucca has bluish leaves and fruits that look like green bananas. |
 Nevada or Utah agave, northernmost of all agaves. |
 While the agave is small, the spines are long and sharp, and there are teeth along the edges of the leaves. |
 The 6-inch-high plant can produce a 9-foot flower stalk. |
