Talk:Staphylococcus epidermidis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I thought S. aureus and not S. epi produced samll dark colonies on Baird Parker medium. Am I wrong or is this article?

"A selective medium for the isolation of staphylococci from food samples. Sodium pyruvate protects damaged cells and aids their recovery. Egg yolk emulsion assists in the diagnosis of organisms. Glycine, lithium and tellurite suppress the growth of other bacteria in foods without inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus. S. aureus reduces tellurite to form grey-black shiny colonies and produces clear zones around the colonies due to the proteolytic activity on egg yolk. On further incubation most S. aureus strains produce opaque zones around their colonies due to lipase activity." - Baird Parker Agar - from: NATIONAL STANDARD METHOD BAIRD PARKER AGAR, as foound at: http://www.hpa-standardmethods.org.uk/documents/msop/pdf/msop21.pdf
