It is desirable that Wikipedia articles contain the most current information. As the 2005 US Census demographics are available, they are the clear choice. Using demographics from six years ago is unnecessary as last year's number have been published by the US Government. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.85.228.175 (talkcontribs)

However, your assertion about the validity of the 2005 data is incorrect; the US Census only actively takes count of the population every 10 years. The Bureau does publish mid-term estimates, but they are based on other statistics that do not necessarily reflect the actual population of the city. For example, the North Dakota State Data Center has complained that the Bureau commonly uses income tax return information to identify migration. This method often removes "snowbirds" from the population of their hometowns because they file their taxes in the winter, when they are elsewhere.
I'm perfectly willing to compromise and include the 2005 estimate in the article, but the hard number from 2000 will have to stay. --AlexWCovington (talk) 16:43, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Excellent, Alex, we'll keep both sets of numbers in there. Thank you for explaining your position, and seeking a fruitful compromise. I did not realize that to contribute, one was required to register an account. Is that the case? User:64.85.228.175
It is not required to edit articles, but is to start new ones. Having a user account also aids in collaboration by giving you a user talk page, where other users may contact you, and other priveleges. --AlexWCovington (talk) 18:39, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Alex. We really have to keep the 2000 figure in the article, but we can include the 2005 estimate if so desired. --MatthewUND(talk) 22:45, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
