I don't know a whole lot about the Gossip, but something here doesn't seem right:
- However, the song was written and was being performed live in Summer/Fall 2005. This was prior to the 2005 U.S. elections in which both in The Gossip's state of residence (Oregon)—and the U.S. in general—voted for "family values"/anti-gay marriage proposals en masse. Ditto and The Gossip have engaged in extensive historical revisionism in explaining that "Standing In The Way Of Control" is a predominately political song. In truth, Ditto wrote the song chiefly in support of a close, personal friend who was/is enduring a period of hard times and depression. Ditto/The Gossip have extensively cashed in on the current, anti-gay U.S. political climate, when in fact the song's original meaning had little or nothing to do with gay marriage of similar pro-gay issues. and:
Well, I seem to remember living in Portland for the summer of 2004, during which campaigning was going on for the United States presidential election, 2004. In particular, the Oregon Ballot Measure 36 (2004) was on the cards. Maybe the song wasn't originally about gay rights, but there's no reason it couldn't be. Maccoinnich 17:08, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
The whole paragraph reeks of POV anyway ("engaged in extensive historical revisionism"; "cashed in"), and needs comprehensively revising, or deleting.Tobycek 22:57, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
