Talk:Stadium Australia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Why is this stadium part of the Defunct Stadia group? It is currently in use for many sporting events, as the article clearly states. - Alex
- The category is [[Category:Defunct athletics stadia]] which is correct - the athletics track has been removed. -- Arwel (talk) 16:43, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Seating capacity and Record Crowds
In the seating/capacity records, can someone amend the Rugby rectangular record to 83,418 which occured between Australia vs NZ All Blacks on 7/8/2004.This is higher than the World cup final attendance.
[edit] Financial and Management issues
I think this article might be considered incomplete and unbalanced if it only mentions sporting events with record crowds etc, but does not contain some mention of the financial problems surrounding this stadium. For example it appears to have been built at a cost of $690 million, but by April 30, 2005 the Sydney Morning Herald was reporting that it was mired in debt and almost as hard to fill as it would be to demolish. The article goes on to state that "market capitalisation of the stadium, based on a share price of 8c, is less than $10 million"... although "independent valuation is in the range of $143 million to $157 million".
On November 16, 2006 it was reported in a Sydney Morning Herald article, that the ANZ Bank are to take control of Stadium Australia Group (and therefore the stadium itself) for $10m. Xagent86 21:58, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject class rating
This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 10:13, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Renaming
Stadium will be renamed to ANZ Stadium on 1 Jan 2008. Suggest the article be renamed then (and not before) and a redirect put in place given the name will still be in common usage. Moa999 (talk) 03:19, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I suggest we use this change as a prompt to consider naming all "naming rights" venues as their non-sponsored name, and using redirects. eg.
- Stadium Australia with redirects Telstra Stadium and ANZ Stadium
- Sydney Football Stadium with redirect Aussie Stadium
- This has been discussed before but nothing decided. Perhaps a comment on WP:AWNB would be worthwhile? -- Chuq (talk) 08:54, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Note: I just realised that "ANZ Stadium" also refers to an athletics centre in Brisbane. In this case, "ANZ Stadium" could be a disambig and not a redirect. A template such as {{ANZ Stadium}} which contains "[[Stadium Australia|ANZ Stadium]]" would allow people to easily link to the correct article while displaying the current (as of 2008 that is) name. -- Chuq (talk) 08:58, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
The suggestion appears to be popular as discussed at Wikipedia:AWNB#Stadium naming. I'll move the article sometime between now and January 1. -- Chuq (talk) 01:10, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

- The best idea, but it seems someone is unhappy not having the free advertising, and has changed it again. No wnoder they drop wads of cash on doing this, inexplicably it works... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.168.211.104 (talk) 07:33, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox suggestion
I'm not getting much of a response at Template talk:Infobox Stadium so I'll ask here - what do people think of the sample tenants section in the layout displayed at: Template_talk:Infobox_Stadium#New_.27tenants.27_format? (please reply on that page to keep discussion in the one place) -- Chuq (talk) 08:30, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
