Stay Awake

"Stay Awake" is a song from Walt Disney's film Mary Poppins, and it is composed by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman.

A lullaby sung by Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews), to the two children Jane and Michael, on a night of rain and thunder. The children protest when Mary tells them it's time for bed, but when "Stay Awake" is sung, the children yawn and doze off to sleep.

Julie Andrews took nearly 50 takes (most reports suggest 47) in the Disney recording studio to create the perfect "soft" voice quality for the song.

A song not used in the film, was "Mary Poppins Melody", instead elements of this song became part of "Stay Awake".
