Statonia

Statonia was an ancient Etruscan city located in what is now southern Tuscany (province of Grosseto), central Italy.

The ancient town was located south-west to the modern Pitigliano, not far from the localities of Corano and Poggio Formica, where several prehistoric tombs have been excavated. Its remains are on a tuff butte. According to archaeologists, Statonia's period of highest splenoudr would have been the 7th century BC. The remains include a necropolis with a tombs carved in the rocks, parts of a wall curtain and the ruins of a medieval church.
