Stateburg is a census-designated place (CDP) in the High Hills of Santee in Sumter County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,264 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Sumter, South Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area.

In the 1780s, Stateburg only lacked a handful of votes from the South Carolina General Assembly to make it the State Capitol, after considerations to move the capitol to the central part of the state. The assembly finally agreed upon Granby's Ferry on the Congaree River, near the confluence of the Broad and Saluda Rivers, which became Columbia - which ended up being selected as the State Capitol of South Carolina. Stateburg is in the heart of what is known as the High Hills of Santee.
