State Of The Heart

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

State of the Heart is a cover song by Rick Springfield. It first appeared on 1985's Tao and also appears on Greatest Hits-Alive. This was the second of three singles of the critically acclaimed, but commercially disappointing, Tao LP. While commercial sales were disappointing, the LP did spawn 2 top 40 hits ("State of the Heart" and "Celebrate Youth"). Springfield also performed this single live at Live Aid in Philadelphia, PA in July of 1985, in front of over 500,000 people.

The tune was originally recorded by Australian rock group Mondo Rock for their 1980 album Chemistry, and written by the group's guitarist Eric McCusker. Mondo Rock's version was a commercial success in their native land of Australia. Springfield took the liberty of writing an enhanced version of the guitar solo and gave the song a moody synthesiser - driven sound.
