Startin' Over is the forthcoming album by American singer La Toya Jackson. When released, it will be Jackson's eleventh studio album. It produced two top twenty-five U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play hits: "Just Wanna Dance" (#13, October 2004) and "Free the World" (#24, March 2005). The album was originally scheduled for release in 2002, but its release has been continually delayed to the point where Jackson is currently re-working the album to sound more up-to-date. [1]
[edit] Original Version
The first promo of Startin' Over was released in 2002. This was the only promotional copy of Startin' Over that had been released. In 2006 the entire promo was leaked to the internet.
The original version of the album included many tracks about Jackson's relationship with her abusive ex-husband and former manager Jack Gordon. Several of them hint towards brutal beatings and plans to have her family killed. Jackson decided not to use any of those tracks after Gordon's death from cancer.
[edit] New Version
Many new tracks have been recorded for the "updated" album. A single and music video called "Startin' Over" was planned; unfortunately, the single was scrapped. Instead, Ja-Tail announced that they planned on releasing a single called "I Don't Play That", based on Jackson's experiences on the CBS reality series Armed and Famous. The single was released to radio on January 29, 2007. It performed poorly.
On a Dutch talk show in May 2008, Jackson confirmed there were two more songs to complete for the album and it would be finished.[2]
Jackson's manager has stated the album is likely to be released in the first quarter of 2009. It will be a dance album containing ten tracks. The singles Free the World and I Don't Play That will not be included, but a new mix of Just Wanna Dance will be.
