Stars on Long Play II

Stars on Long Play was the first album by the studio group Stars on 45 and credited to "Stars on".

Side One was the 12" version of the "Stars on 45 Medley" without "Venus", and "Sugar Sugar". Several more Beatles songs (plus the chorus "Stars on 45" in various places, also one George Harrison song and a couple of uncredited fleeting musical references to The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There" and The Sparks' "Beat The Clock") in a fifteen minute long medley. The album was released on Radio Records as Radio Records 16044.

Side two consisted of three additional medleys, two of which were performed by Dutch rock revival band Long Tall Ernie & the Shakers. These two medleys ("Do You Remember" and "Golden Years Of Rock And Roll") had been hits in The Netherlands in 1977 and 1978 respectively and had been produced by Stars on 45 producer Jaap Eggermont.

[edit] Cover

The cover of this album was probably one of the simplest ever: it only listed the medley tracks and a short producer credit. It contained no pictures or other artwork. The lettering was set in an old fashioned telex-style font. This refers to the European release by 21 Records.

The US release had a cover in the style of a newspaper with the headline being the album title, the byline "Performed by Stars On" and using a black and white photo of '50s movie goers wearing 3-D glasses. Bursting through the photo is a big silver five pointed star. The rest of the cover is the track listing for the side one medley in newspaper font.
