[edit] Company History
The company was founded in the 1940's by Glenn A. Werry, Sr. in Canton, Illinois as a freight and household carrier, and it was also an agent for North American Van Lines. The initial customer (which would become their major one) was the International Harvester plant in Canton.
Through networking with the IH plant, the company began hauling farm equipment for other businesses in the agricultural field. When it closed, Star was forced to refocus their efforts into other transportation needs.
Glenn A. Werry, Jr. started making those changes in the 1980's (one of which was phasing out of the company's flatbed trailers in favor of dry vans), which led to the headquarters moving to Morton, Illinois which would form the foundation of what would become a long relationship with Caterpillar and Maytag that continues to this day.
Due to continued and sustained growth over the years, Star now operates over 900 tractors.
