Stanley Roper is the name of a fictional character from the sitcom Three's Company and its spinoff The Ropers.
In Three's Company, Stanley Roper owns and manages the apartment building in Santa Monica that is the home to Jack Tripper, Janet Wood and Chrissy Snow. He has a love-hate relationship with his wife, Helen.
His wife always wants to get romantic with him, but he appears uninterested. However, he seems very interested in flirting with younger women. Stanley is extremely cheap and very much penny wise, pound foolish. After Mr. Roper sold the building to Bart Furley, Bart's brother Ralph took over as landlord.
For The Ropers, he and Helen move to Cheviot Hills, California and live next door to snobby real estate agent, Jeffrey P. Brookes III. Stanley doesn't much like living next to Jeffrey, and the feeling is mutual. When he and his wife Helen were first looking at the house, Jeffrey's son David came into the house and explains to Stanley that if his father didn't like him, he would never let them (he and Helen) move in. When Jeffrey came, Mr. Roper explains that this house was perfect for his "drums" and "wild parties". Soon, Stanley and Helen were thrown out of the building but soon came back to get another look at it. Jeffrey put a phony "sold" sign in front of the house. Stanley kept inside his happiness but to seem sad for Helen said, "I would buy it this in an instant if it wasn't sold!" Jeffrey told them that the house wasn't sold and Mr. Roper ends up buying the building.
Norman Fell would occasionally break the fourth wall by staring at the audience with a smile realising something funny happened.
