Stanley E. Bogdan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stanley E. Bogdan (born December 16, 1918 in Nashua, New Hampshire) is a master craftsman of the well-known and highly sought Bogdan fly fishing reels and an ambassador of salmon fishing. Bogdan's handmade reels have gained much notoriety from fly anglers worldwide for their quality and innovation.

In 1940, Bogdan started out crafting salmon reels that featured a unique braking system critical for hooking salmon. They became so popular among the world's Atlantic salmon-fishing elite that Bogdan reluctantly began turning out trout reels in the early 1970s to satisfy demand. Through the years, clients have included Benny Goodman, Bing Crosby and the Duke of Wellington.

Currently, each Bogdan reel continues to be handmade by Stanley and his son Steven in their shop in New Ipswich, New Hampshire.
