Stanhope Elmore High School

Stanhope Elmore High School is a grades 9-12 school in Millbrook, Alabama, United States. As part of Elmore County, the school is the Home of the Mustangs, Foshee-Henderson Stadium, and Mustang Marching Band.

Stanhope Elmore High School was founded in 1965 and is named after former Alabama Secretary of State Albert Stanhope Elmore (b 1827, d 1909). It currently has five main buildings for classrooms, an "agriscience" shop, a distance learning room, and a combination facility containing a gymnasium, cafeteria, band room, and a room for percussionists.

As of 2007, Stanhope has 62 certified teachers, three administrators, and two guidance counselors. The school supports advanced or standard diplomas, and has a strong AP program in history and mathematics. Stanhope also participates in the statewide ACCESS distance learning program. Stanhope is home to the Stanhope Elmore Book Club, a Scholar's Bowl team, a Mu Alpha Theta chapter, a science club, and a debate team.

Stanhope Elmore won its first state title in 2006 in baseball. Stanhope is well known for its accomplished Army Junior ROTC department, which regularly receives top honors is various areas, winning 79 out of 83 of theit past drill competitions. On February 19th, 2008, the ROTC department had a sweep Lanier High School for best school overall in competition, as well as eight other 1st place trophies including best athlete in competition and most notablely, they won the Commander's Trophy at best overall school. Stanhope has a consistenly excellent football team, the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs. In 2007, the team made it to 6A State Playoffs. The Mustangs recently took on the former 6A champion Hoover High School Buccaneers in their annual spring game. While the Mustangs lost 21-6, the team showed true promise in the year to come, as they will experiment with the arrival of a new quarterback who recently transfered from Jefferson Davis, a region opponent for the Mustangs of Stanhope Elmore. The recently formed golf team has been largely successful, both male and female teams, winning the Elmore County Championship.

[edit] Recent Changes
The school's administrators were changed to Susan Jones (as of March, 2008), alongside assistant principals Anderson Graves, II and Patrick Caine. Molly Killingsworth remained from the previous regime. With Susan's arrival, the school was experiencing several major changes. A new wing known as the "700 building" was built a year prior to her arrival, and construction on a new gymnasium is set to open in 2009 has started. The library's surrounding land has been surveyed, and approved to be doubled in size, and it is expected to be finished by February 2009.
