Stand for Children

Stand for Children is an American grass roots non-profit organization that provides a political voice for children's issues by organizing parents, child-care and education professionals and other concerned citizens. Founded in 1996, Stand for Children has state affiliates in Oregon, Massachusetts, and Tennessee. Its headquarters are located in Portland, Oregon. Since its inception, Stand's volunteer members have won 75 specific victories that helped secure almost $1.4 billion in funding for public schools and other children's programs, benefiting 2.6 million children.[citation needed]

Its stated mission is:

To teach everyday people how to join together in an effective grassroots voice in order to win concrete, long- lasting improvements for children, at both state and local levels.

The organization was founded June 1, 1996 on Stand for Children Day, the largest rally for children's issues in American history.[citation needed] The organization quickly expanded after the rally.
