Stan Verrett

Stan Verrett is an anchor on the ESPN and ESPNEWS networks in the United States. Most of Verrett's appearances are on SportsCenter at 11 p.m or 1 a.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday. He has also hosted studio segments on ESPN's college basketball and college football telecasts.

He was also know as "Stan The Man", a radio DJ on WOWI 103 Jamz in the Hampton Roads, VA area.

Controversy

On the January 31, 2008, edition of the 11pm SportsCenter, while doing a highlight for a Cleveland Cavaliers game, Donyell Marshall came onto the court without his jersey on; wearing a tank top. In describing this, Verrett called Marshall's tank top a "wife beater". Verrett did apologize for his remark at the end of the show, which ended just after midnight, February 1, 2008.

Verrett was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. His boyhood home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

He attended St. Augustine High School (New Orleans) and Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Verrett is a member of Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans.
