Stalag XI-A was a German Army World War II prisoner-of-war camp built near Altengrabow, about 35 km east of Magdeburg in eastern Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. By 1945 the camp was overflowing with prisoners evacuated from the east. There were 20,000 prisoners at the camp including 2,000 British and American at the end of the war and conditions were very bad with little food and there was an epidemic of typhus.[1]
