[edit] Career

Fox studied percussion with James Peterscak at the Crane School of Music, State University of New York - Potsdam. There she received her Bachelor of Music in music education and Master of Music in solo performance - percussion. She later went on for post graduate studies in solo performance with J.B. Smith and Mark Sunkett at Arizona State University. While at Arizona State University she began working with the Dept. of Dance as a composer and accompanist for movement works. Later, while collaborating with Mary Disanto-Rose and Debra Fernandez at Skidmore College, Fox brought her photographic and film making skills into the studio along with her sound compositions.

Her sound and visual works are kinetic based with a heavy emphasis on indigenous and Taoist themes. Fox has collaborated on numerous sound and visual compositions with modern dance choreographers such as Jean Denny Grotewhol, Debra Fernandez, Ione Beauchamp and Sue Lauther as well as interdisciplinary artists Maria Velasco, Maria Anthony, Angela Ellsworth and eco journalist Simran Sethi. She has received grants and awards for her work in arts education and with indigenous peoples using technology to preserve cultural traditions. Currently she is at the cutting edge of creativity, performance and education in the use of cyber performance production in synthetic worlds such as Second Life and telematic performances. Her works have been experienced in numerous venues including Tang Museum, National Museum of Dance, American Dance Festival, the synthetic world of Second Life and Judson Church. The Stacey Fox ensemble consists of three core musicians, Maria Anthony, Megan Hurt and Stacey Fox and has included for special premieres Clark Jamison, Barry Barnes, Cynthia Lee and Danny Whelchel.
