Stabio is a municipality in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Stabio (375 m/1,230ft; pop. 2,800) dates back to pre-Roman times with evidence of Etruscan, Roman and Langobard settlements having been found. It was the chief town in the region under the Romans and contains interesting burghers' houses and a local museum. Average temperature is 10 C (although temperatures are considerably higher in summer than in winter) and average rainfall is 120 mm/mo.
