Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (The State Theatre on the Gärtnerplatz) is an opera house and opera company in Munich.

Designed by the architect Michael Reiffenstuel, the theatre opened on 5 November 1865. Since then it has functioned as Munich's second opera house after the National Theatre.

At times exclusively concerned with operetta, in recent years the company has focussed mainly on opera, though there are also productions of operettas, musicals and ballet. The scope of its activities are similar to those of the Komische Oper in Berlin and the English National Opera in London.

One of the most active theatres in Germany, its season lasts from September to July and includes more than 200 performances. The former intendant was Klaus Schultz. Current intendant is Dr. Ulrich Peters. The chief conductor is the American David Stahl. Director of dance (TanzTheater München) is Hans Henning Paar.
