Staatsbosbeheer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Staatsbosbeheer is a Dutch organization founded in 1899 to control, conserve and replant Dutch forests.

Staatsbosbeheer currently oversees about 2,460 square kilometres of land in the Netherlands. Usually this land is open to the public for recreational purposes, but often restrictions apply, such as no access after sundown, or compulsory use of a leash when bringing a dog.

While the literal translation of the name would be 'State forest control', forests only make up 900 square kilometres of the total land under supervision. The remaining land consists of varying landscapes such as dunes, polders and swamps.
