[edit] Note

For those afraid of a two-article category, I intend in the following months to translate some of de: and fr: articles about stamp designers, beginning of course with the more known or the most prolific in French area. Sebjarod 17:53, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

I added the category stamp designers to a few designers who did not have it in their article and will watch out for missing ones in my wikitravels. However it seems that many designers who have worked on stamps don't have articles, or even stubs, in the first place. ww2censor 18:08, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the additions. From my (French) point of view, it seems that there are some major designers who are well-known (Slania, Buzin, Machin). In France, the one who designed definitive series are traditionally remembered. But, for the last ten years, the French philatelic press has developed an interest in all stamp designers who designed French stamps. And this evolution has concluded with the founding of "Art du timbre gravé", a philatelic association for promoting intaglio and whose first members were stamp designers.
Note that Postverk Føroya in its publications gives place to some artists. Sebjarod 19:03, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
At the moment I am working on the Postage stamps of Ireland and perhaps I should include a section on the designers even if there are no articles for several of the designers. What do you think? ww2censor 20:55, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
I think it's a good idea : if someone has the data or a stamp catalog that gives the designers' names, he can write a small biography (see fr:Catégorie:Dessinateur de timbres, where I slowly build stamp list for each designers). Sebjarod 19:26, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
We already have a the Category:Stamp_designers that shows all stamp designers if one adds the category to the designer's article, so we should continue to use it. Let's see if we can get some others involved in writing articles, or even short stubs, for stamp designers. Unfortunately stamp catalogs do not usually give much designer information, but if they are well known, one should be able to find other information about the designer in their other design work. ww2censor 19:40, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More designers linked

While browsing the German and French Wikipedias I was able to link to several designers that were not categorised previously. There are several more designers on these pages: [1] [2] whose articles do not yet have an English page if anyone needs some leads. This brings the list up 50+ Cheers. ww2censor 17:18, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Remember, translators, for French intels about philately in France, you can ask me questions (even on en.user page, I travel there twice a week). Sebjarod 18:17, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
I might take you up one some translation, or at least tidying up some new articles if you don't mind. Thanks for the offer. ww2censor 05:19, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
