Talk:St Georges Terrace, Perth
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Suggestion from the see-saw that is the history of this page - this street needs more than the skeletal nature it currently has, but certainly not what proceeded it! SatuSuro 14:04, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A dumb question
Why is it spelt without the apostrophe, as in St Georges Terrace rather than St George's Terrace? -- I@n ≡ talk 14:23, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

- Maybe this is the saturday night epiphany, a new article with the correct title (just think of the wierd and wonderful red links you will create) ready for a new template and all !SatuSuro 14:30, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Photo Caption
The photo of the old government buildings - they were state govt not federal offices in that building correct title "Former State Treasury buildings" SatuSuro 04:42, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- That's not a very representative photo for the Terrace anyway as the Treasury bldgs are more oriented towards Barrack St. The Palace, or a view up the hill towards the Barracks would be better. See List of historic buildings in Perth, Western Australia (shameless plug). A new photo is really needed. — Moondyne 16:40, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- there was(circa1990 last time i checked it was there) a plaque on that corner that says 0km as is was the starting point for all distance measurements from Perth. Gnangarra 17:12, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Originally where the Govt Buildings stand was the Original GPO before it moved to Forrest Place. The Govt Buildings were originally mixed Federal/state inasmuch as the State was responsible for Tax collection etc till after WW2. John Curtin had his War Cabinet in these buildings when in WA. My Uncle Joe's old office when he was Acting Director of the (then) State Tax Office in the 1980's, has the flag pole out the front next to the main enterance on St Georges Tce - It is the window on the left of the main stairs in this photo. The (then) State Treasury had the enterance on Barrack St and is not the building pictured. The (then) Lands Office had the enterance on Cathedral Ave. The R&I Bank had an enterance on Hay St and Barrack St until it was demolished. There are old WW2 bomb shelters underneath the footpath. My office is in the Law Chambers Building adjacent behind St George's Cathedral. petedavo 13:02, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
