St Mary's School is an independent private boarding school for girls located in Waverley, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. The school is the oldest school in Johannesburg and was established in 1888. The school is renowned for excellence in academics and sport as well as cultural activities. It boasts an impressive alumni which bears testimony to the value of this balanced and excellent education.
To achieve this they focus strongly on discovering the potential of each St Mary's girl and the unlocking of that potential. After all, it is futures that we are building.
The school was founded by the Anglican Church in 1888. The founder, John Darragh started its brother school St John's College, in Houghton ten years later in 1898.

St Mary's School writes the Independent Examinations Board exams. The school has consistently achieved a 100% pass rate in the final public examination.

The school is one of the top sporting schools in South Africa. It currently has 4 old girls in the Springbok Hockey squad.
