St John's School and Community College is an age 11–18 mixed comprehensive school in the English town of Marlborough. As of November 2005, it has over 1,500 students. The school was formed by the amalgamation of the Marlborough Grammar School and Secondary Modern School and as such is split onto two sites, located approximately 1.2 miles from each other. The current headmaster is Dr. Patrick Hazelwood, who has occupied the position since 1996.

The lower building (known as Savernake after the nearby Savernake Forest) primarily deals with years 7 to 9; the upper building (known as the Stedman site) years 10 to 11 and Sixth Form. In 1998 the school became a specialist Technology College and in 2005 a specialist Language College as well (see Specialist school).

Plans for a new school on a single site are at an advanced stage of preparation. The single site project has been many years in the planning, but as of yet (June 2007) construction has still not started. This has been due to problems obtaining planning permission for development of the other site, and complaints from local residents, which have so far cost the school approximately £1 million in delays. The new school building also plans to provide services to the local community such as a public library.

[edit] Mission statement

"... a school recognised for excellence in education and obedience, that places the learner at the centre of all endeavour and that sets the standards to which others aspire."

"... a school at the heart of its community, where everyone is valued for who they are, for what they may become and where people matter more than anything else."
