St James Street railway station is in the London Borough of Waltham Forest in north east London, and is in Travelcard Zone 3, on the Chingford branch of the Lea Valley Lines. The station, and all trains serving it, is operated by National Express East Anglia.

[edit] History and Local Area

Located in Walthamstow, St James Street has a strong link with its neighbouring High Street (thought to be the longest street market in Europe). Shoppers have an easy route from the southern most end of the market to the railway station, which provides a fast and regular route to the top of the market (Walthamstow Central) or into Liverpool Street.

After this section of the WAGN rail circuit was taken over by National Express East Anglia, the station required some redevelopment. A dual staircase was constructed, allowing passengers to access the train platform without passing through the main body of the station itself, and permitting the ticket office to be locked up overnight.
