It is currently part of the Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai. This is a free Hospital run by the Government of Maharashtra.
The hospital is also associated with the Grant Medical College and both undergraduate and postgraduate students attend clinical attachments at the Hospital.
There is a ward dedicated to seamen in the Hospital as it is close to the dock areas. There is also a special ward in the hospital which is for Government officials and VIPs.
The Government Dental College as well as the DMER (Directorate of Medical Education and Research) of the Government of Maharashtra are adjacent to the St George Hospital.
Due to its proximity to CST this hospital has to cater for an abnormal number of railway accidents.
The only remnant of the wall of the Mumbai Fort still stands in the back yard of the Hospital.
