St Augustine Of Canterbury Roman Catholic High School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St Augustine of Canterbury Roman Catholic High School or Guzzies as it is commonly known, is a voluntary-aided Catholic comprehensive school in the town of St Helens, Lancashire. It has approx. 725 students whose ages range from 11 to 16. The school is an improving voluntary aided comprehensive school, however it is noted that it is over subscribed due to the perception that it offers a better standard of education than that offered by surrounding schools. The proportion of students gaining 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English and Mathematics, has been unacceptably low over the past few years.

[edit] Pupils
It is estimated that around 725 students attend St Augustines, making the school's listings full. The school is popular for children to go to for many reasons, it's high GCSE results and it's location are the main factors. As there are so many pupils, the school is a place to socialise as well as get an education. One student said:
I love the fact I can see most of my friends when I'm at school. I also love the fact that I have friends in different year groups that I can hang around with.
[edit] Staff
The current headteacher is long-standing member of staff and graduate of Birmingham City University, Linda Mousdale, who formerly conducted English lessons in room 14.
