St Albans is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, in the suburb of St Albans. It is located on the Sydenham line , and is in Metcard Zone 2.

[edit] Facilities

St Albans was made a Premium Station in 1996, meaning that it is staffed from first to last train. The station was the former terminus for the electrified St Albans railway line until 2002 when the electrification was extended to Sydenham.

This station has three platforms - one on the UP direction, and two on the DOWN direction. The platform on the UP direction was for V/Line trains heading to the Melbourne, and this platform was across the road and further away from the rest of the station. Platform 2 was for V/Line services heading to Sunbury or Bendigo in the DOWN direction while Platform 3 in the DOWN direction was for trains to terminate and to go back to the city. A new platform 3 was later built for trains towards the city, with the original UP platform now disused.

[edit] History

St Albans Station opened on Tuesday, 1st February 1887.
