Image talk:St Patrick's saltire.svg

This Irish saltire is in fact the heraldic banner of Fitzgerald the Duke of Leinster(in the same Irish juristiction ) but was also used in the insignia of the Order of St Patrick founded late 18th century. So what was it in fact, it was for certain the Arms in banner form of the Ds of L. A friend a number of years back told me that he had said to Church of Ireland priests who flew the saltire over their chuches, "I see you are flying the Duke of Leinster's flag today!" [edit] Replace Image
If there are no objections I'd like to replace the flag with one with a thicker saltire, more akin to the Flag of Alabama. Anywhere I've seen a real life version of this flag the red bars have been much thicker than shown in this image. beano 21:36, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

- The St. Patricks Saltire is not thick like the cross in the Scottish Flag. This can be seen in the Union Jack flag for the UK where the 'X' shaped cross is distinctly thinner than that of the Scottish flag.
