[edit] Duplication

This disambig. page is a duplication of the St. Hilda's disambig. page. I should be a redirect.--WikiCats 11:18, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

If there is no further discussion, I will revert this page to a redirect.--WikiCats 05:35, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi WikiCats, I can see that they look like duplicated info but they are disambigs for different terms so it's correct for them to be in two different places now. If you look at WP:DAB, it says that a redirect would be incorrect as it would mean people typing the phrase St. Hilda's College would be faced with several entries which are not related to St. Hilda's College. Disambiguation pages are not ordinary articles - their sole purpose is to steer people to their intended article as quickly as possible and as such there is absolutely no reason not to have the same article referred to from disamibiguations for slightly different terms. Your going to have to point out where in WP:DAB it says that. --WikiCats 12:16, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

The part in question is WP:DAB#Lists. Do not add links that merely contain part of the page title. The St Hilda's School, for example, only contains part of the title of the disambig page title St. Hilda's College, therefore it shouldn't be on the list. Your proposed redirect would cause it to be on the list. There are plenty of examples where subsets of disambiguation pages exist - Georgetown and Georgetown, Georgia being one such. Would you expect the entire list of Georgetowns to appear when you type Georgetown, Georgia in the box and click 'Go'? There's really nothing wrong with the current arrangement here. Cheers... — SteveRwanda 12:35, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm not convinced that the MOS bit that Steve quotes here secures his position. Nevertheless, although I have no strong feelings at all, it does seem that this page is slightly useful. As it is unlikely to require much maintenance, I do not see the harm in leaving it up. I has no effect on the St. Hilda's disambig page, which, as it should, also links directly to the two colleges. ×Meegs 13:13, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Tangential question: is it safe to assume that all of these churches and schools are named for Hilda of Whitby? ×Meegs 13:15, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
I would have thought so - according to List of saints, there's only one called Hilda (assuming that list is comprehensive). St. Hilda currently redirects to Hilda of Whitby, which is presumably therefore correct. — SteveRwanda 13:20, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Shame on you, Wikipedia is not a reliable source ;) ×Meegs 13:23, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Heh heh, how right you are - looking again, I see the list definitely isn't comprehensive - it admits as much... This is the list of Hs from the catholic church's website: [1], which may be more so... It still seems highly likely they're all named after her, anyway. — SteveRwanda 13:29, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
