- St. Gregorios is known for his love and devotion for the Throne of St. Peter's at Antioch, the headquarters of the Universal Syrian Christian. In his formative years, before becoming a bishop, he was serving the then Patriarch of Antioch as HH (??) Secretary. His in-depth knowedge of the Syrian liturgy, and devotion to his superior brought this young priest as the youngest bishop ever anointed in the history of Malankara Syrian Church. The disorganised Malankara Church was administered by an Archdeacon, and the faithful were not happy with the administration.
- While the Head of the Church visited this land towards the end of 19th Century, HH called a Synod at Mulathuruthy in the year 1875, and in it the Malankara Church was divided into 6 provinces (Bhadrasanams). The southern provinces of Niranam, Thumpamon and Kollam was assigned to the youngest Bishop Mar Gregorios. These areas were mostly disturbed by the Reformists group, and the Syrian Orthodox Church was supposed to be exinct in these places, but the hard work of this young bishop acted as a catalyst and it prevented further erosion of (Orthodox?) Syrian Christian(s) towards the Reformist group, and thus saved the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church from extinction.
- HG (HH or HG?) acted as a social reformer, and started a number of educational institutions, where irrespective of caste and creed anybody could receive an education. HG selected a place called Parumala near Mannar in Niranam, where St. Thomas the Apostle of India started a Church in the first century (fact or legend?), and started a Seminary to teach the budding priests, who will have to lead the faithfuls in true faith.
[edit] title
The title of the article is very long. Why cant it just be Mor Gregorios of Parumala or even just Gregorios of Parumala. Those are simpler and easier to understand. ܠܝܛܘ Liju ലിജു לג"ו (talk) 16:36, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
