St. Xavier's is one of the most prestigious schools in Nepal well known for providing quality education at affordable prices.[citation needed] For most of its existence it was an all boys school. St. Xavier's started admitting girls in 2001. St. Xavier's consists of three different schools in Nepal all operated by Jesuits. The three schools are located in Godavari, Lalitpur and Maitighar (St. Xavier's College) sections of Kathmandu valley.
The main school was established in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, in 1951 by a group of Jesuit missionaries. It has an all girls sister school nearby named St. Mary's School.
