St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School is a Roman Catholic high school located in Toronto, Ontario also known as SPCSS, St. Pats, or just Pats. It was dedicated to Saint Patrick of Ireland. It grew out of an elementary school founded in 1852; the secondary school opened in 1986 on D'Arcy Street. In 1989 St. Patrick moved to Toronto east where it currently resides.
[edit] History
St. Patrick was first founded as an elementary school on D'Arcy Street in 1852. In 1986, St. Patrick was made a secondary school. In 1989, St. Patrick moved to 49 Felstead Ave., formerly occupied by Lakeview Public Secondary, in Toronto east where it currently resides. During the years, St. Patrick has undergone extensive renovations with new up-to-date facilities for theatre and visiual arts, physical education and construction technology. The patron saints of the school are St. Patrick and St. Marguerite Bourgeoys.
[edit] Student Population
The population has seen drastic changes over the years. Throughout the 1990s the school had up-to 1,500 students housed in the five floor school. Population began to dwindle in the 2000s where it now stands at only 566 students. Despite a small population, St. Patrick is very diverse, with large populations of Hispanic, Filipino and Black students.
