The Fighting Irish are known for their athletic prowess playing in the NCSSAA (National Capital Secondary Schools Athletic Association). Their sports teams often dominate Ottawa play and Ontario play. Each year the school sends team to OFSAA, the provincial championships in many athletic disciplines. Recently the Senior Boys Basketball Team, the Senior Boys Soccer Team and The Senior Boys Football Team have enjoyed much success, advancing to many finals, including numerous championships. The school has also produced many star athletes who have gone on to have successful collegiate careers.[citation needed]
RECENT NEWS The Senior Boys Basketball team recently participated in the 2007-2008 'AAA' OFSAA provincials. They went to lose their first game 65-55 to Jean Vanier. However they turned things around in the next game crushing Governor Simcoe 70-49. The fighting Irish moved on to play a much tougher team, Catholic Central, and went on to easily beat them 56-43. In the final four, #4 ranked St.Pat's was up against #3 ranked Oakridge. Stellar play and teamwork proved that the Irish were there to win, the final score was 56-37 for St.Pats. In the Gold Metal Game, St.Pats were up against the #1 team Vaughan. With having the dynamic brother duo Nicholas Wiggins and Mitchell Wiggins, the Irish matched them up with their main key players: Greg Carter, Afeworki Gebrekerestos, Jesse Duodu and Jamael Babineau. By the half, the Irish had destroyed Vaughan leading 27-14. As fourth quarter approached, Nicholas Wiggins brought back Vaughan to trail by 5, 40-35. It came down to the wire, but the chemistry St.Pats had was too much for Vaughan. St.Pat's went to win 'AAA' OFSAA by one point, 63-62.
