There are two parts to the school building. The first part near Simonston Boulevard, has two stories to it. Within the main building, there are art rooms, music rooms, library, and other classrooms. The outer portable classrooms contains Grade 6s classrooms, and drama classes.
The school, like other school in York Region, is divided in four divisions, the kindergarten division (Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten); primary division (Grades 1-3); junior division (Grades 4-6); and intermediate division (Grades 7-8). The school is especially renowned for its art room.

Saint Michael Catholic Academy offers special rotary system. Unlike other schools in York Region, the school has a 6-day rotation system. This was to help the students to be well prepared for high schools. In rotaries, students are required to take courses like visual arts, music, and drama.

Most Grade 8s will go to St. Robert Catholic High School.

The school's parish is Good Shephard Church, adjacent to the school. Students walk there every month to attend school masses. Every three months or so, students also have an opportunity to visit the church for reconcilliation.
