St. Michael's Special School is an Archdiocese of New Orleans Catholic School for students with major learning difficulties. Elementary is for ages 6 to 16 and Vocational Training is for ages 16 to 21. Some of the students that are 21 years old or older works for the St. Michael Special School's Joy Activity Center. Joy stands for "Jobs Of Youth".

The workers at the Joy Center make handmade crafts. The Joy Center is also a full service balloon company. The Joy Center is more popular with collecting beads from parades routes that are to be used for recycling. The workers sort the beads out and package them to be sold to clients.
