From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St. Mary's Parish is a Roman Catholic church in Appleton, Wisconsin in the Diocese of Green Bay. St. Mary Parish was organized by Fr. J.N. Pfeiffer and the Irish Catholics of the area in 1859 and was the first Roman Catholic church in Appleton. In 1860 a frame church was completed and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin under the title “St. Mary of the Seven Dolors.” Joseph McCarthy, who was in the United States Senate, is buried in the parish cemetery.
Over the years the parish has grown from its Irish heritage to become a faith community of diverse backgrounds. Current pastor is Fr. Michael O'Rourke.
