St. Joachim, Ontario

St. Joachim is a hamlet in the Town of Lakeshore in Essex County, Ontario, Canada. It has a population of approximately five hundred.

In the heart of the town rests a Catholic church (St. Joachim Church) which was erceted over one hundred years ago by francophone settlers. To date it remains one of the strongest sentinels of Franco-Ontarian life the region.

The church is built in the same fashion as many of the more distinguished french Catholic churches in the province of Quebec. The impressive building stands adjacent to St. Jean Baptiste hall, a popular wedding reception and celebration area.

Encompassing the banks of the Ruscom River, St. Joachim remains one of the most important cultural and archival francophone settlements in southern Ontario.
