St. James Centre

The St. James Centre is a shopping centre located in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was designed by Ian Burke & Martin in 1964.

Due to its brutalist architecture, it is one of Edinburgh's most unloved buildings.

[edit] Development

A £850m redevelopment of the St. James Centre has been proposed by its owners, Henderson Global Investors. This would involve the construction of new shops, a public sqaure area, two hotels and new apartments. The existing 1973 building would be completely demolished to make way for a three-storey, glass-roofed crescent-shaped building. It is anticipated the redevelopment would be completed by 2015.[1]
