St. Francis Xavier Secondary School is located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It is a Catholic high school in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, and is home to 2194 students, about 130 instructional staff and support staff, and a childcare centre. The principal is currently Neville Mant. The school mascot is the Tiger. The school has been noted for its International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. With 2194 students, it is the second largest school in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (as of September 21, 2007).
The school is located within St. Francis Xavier Parish in the Archdiocese of Toronto, and is the high school for St. Hilary, St. Matthew, St. Jude, St. Gertrude, and San Lorenzo Ruiz Elementary schools. Also, even though they are in the Peel Public Board, the school is the primary high school for Bristol Road Middle School and Fairwinds Middle School graduates.
The school opened in September 1990 on a temporary site where John Cabot Catholic Secondary School is now located. After two years, the staff and students moved into the permanent building, near the corner of Bristol and Hurontario. As part of the Dufferin-Peel portable replacement plan, the school received a three floor, twenty-two room addition which was completed in June of 2001. Recently, with further growth of the school, more portables have been added to the school; 5 in 2006 and 5 more in 2007. Originally, 2 more portables are planned in September, 2008 as the school is expected to grow to at least 2380 students. However, that plan was recently cancelled due to a lack of acceptable locations.
Construction of Saviour of the World Chinese Catholic Church started during the 2002/03 school year, the Church now shares property with the school.
