[edit] History
What is now St. Alban's began in 1865 as the Church of the Holy Comforter, Eltingville.[3] The church building was built in 1873 at what is now 3939 Richmond Avenue, the present site of the South Shore YMCA in Eltingville, and was designed by Richard Mitchell Upjohn, the son of the noted Carpenter Gothic architect, Richard Upjohn. It in 1873 the building was divided and moved to its present location where it was expanded.[4] In 1951 Holy Comforter merged with St. Anne's Episcopal Church and changed its name to St. Alban's.[5] St. Anne's had been founded in 1929 as an offshoot of Holy Comforter. St. Alban's is still an active parish in the Episcopal Diocese of New York. The current rector is the Rev. Frederick W. Schraplau.[6]
