Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws, and the stricter requirements of Wikipedia's non-free content policies, because:

1. The article in which this logo is used is entirely for purposes of education and information. Said article contains no judgements, positive or negative, in re its subject , and thus cannot be seen as using the logo for purposes of promotion or derogation.
2. Furthermore, it is by this logo that the subject institution is best identified , there being no other simple graphic means by which those who read said article can quickly and readily both recognise the ultimate subject, as well as retain its familiarity.
3. The logo has been placed in a descriptive panel, detailing vital statistics of the subject institution in the manner of other articles detailing similar institutions, and as such is clearly not used as a "stamp of a approval" , but merely as a further piece of information amongst many more. The placement of the logo, in conjunction with the familiar templatic style to which it is being applied make it easily understood that its use is in no way done in an attempt by the subject of the article to assert said article's officiality
4. Said logo cannot, in any way, be replaced with an equivalent uncopyrighted or freely copyrighted image which would serve the same purpose. As a result of the non-existence of unofficial identifying signs, symbols, or images, as well as public familiarity with the logo in question, no alternative is as yet available.
5. The format and resolution of the logo in question precludes any attempts by unscrupulous elements to utilise it for purposes of reproduction for any personal gain. The image in use is not suitable for purposes of mass reproduction
6. The logo in question is copyright of St. Mary's University College; Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and the source of the image in question is the official website of St. Mary's University College (http://www.stmu.ab.ca)
