Stéphane Derenoncourt

Stéphane Derenoncourt is a French oenologist working as a consultant for numerous wineries in Bordeaux, as well as in more recent times, internationally. He is self-taught.[1][2]

A Normandy steel mill worker's son, Derenoncourt was born in Dunkirk in 1963.[3] The start of his career in viticulture began when he arrived as a hitch-hiker in Fronsac in 1982, and worked several harvests before he found employment at Château Fronsac in 1985. In 1996 was hired as a winemaker by Stephan von Neipperg to his estates, including the "super cuvée" La Mondotte.[2]

He began as a consultant in 1997, and in 1999 he started his own consultancy company, Vignerons Consultants. Derenoncourt and his team now works with a populous list of estates in Bordeaux and esewhere, including Château Pavie-Macquin, Château Canon-la-Gaffelière, Clos Fourtet, Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Château Brown and Château Prieuré-Lichine.

Derenoncourt owns the estate Domaine de l’A, in Côtes de Castillon, and with the wine merchant François Thienpont, the negociant company Terra Burdigala, with an aim to provide a distribution outlet for estates in less glamorous areas.[1][3]
