SS Worthing

SS Worthing was a steam ferry operating between Newhaven and Dieppe Gare Maritime.

The ship was built for the Southern Railway and launched on 3 May 1928.

She sailed for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway until World War II.First captain Charles Lever Cook MBE

The Worthing was to become part of the British Expeditionary Force in France and received her orders to be in Southampton on 8 September 1939. She was to be a troop carrier and sailed to Southampton two days after receiving her orders. Worthing then crossed to Cherbourg a total of six times.

Worthing sailed for the Navy up until 23 March 1945, were Worthing made a return to the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry. She continued up until 1954.
